Cast iron urn from the roof cornice of 623 Broadway. The pair of them had been removed from their location standing on the edge of the cornice and were left against the parapet wall. I was able to salvage both by removing them through a little storage room I rented on the 6th floor of the Cable Building next door at 611-621.

One can imagine the damage something like one of these weighing about 300 pounds falling off a weakened cornice onto the sidewalk 6 floors below could have done were they left where they were originally installed in the 1870s!
