                                 Round wolf head medallion

Model Nr. WH-R

          Interior cast-stone with optional 4 sections of classic egg & dart border shown on my studio wall.

Original clay model used for the molds shown below with one section of border.

Background on the sculpture's creation;

A round architectural terra cotta sculpture purportedly came from a demolished Philly brewery with the name "wolf head brewery," it was for sale on a salvage site for $3500 for quite a while but I have not been able to confirm the origination, or link to any brewery by that name, so either the name of the brewery is wrong or it came from a different building, either way it was a rare and unique sculpture;

I bookmarked the piece but the price tag was the killer, then recently I went to go take another look to motivate me to think about wangling some funds to buy it, but I discovered it was SOLD, ok, oh well right?

Ok, as a dog lover the wolf head was still stuck in my head, so I decided to create my own model of him but I decided the original wolf head was not so well done after all, the extremely slanted eyes and mouth, and a few other issues about it bothered my artistic eye and didn't look "correct." A little searching, ok a LOT of searching... through a hundred wolf photos for a snarling wolf to use for visual reference, I found maybe one photo that was close to what I visualized and wanted in my model. Another photo of a remarkably attractive wolf with kind, expressive, and gentle eyes served as the visual reference for the models' eyes;

He is shown in the photos with one classical egg & dart border since one border model was all that was necessary as this was molded and 4 borders are cast from the molds to complete a set.

The model is 4" deep to allow for embedding concrete casts into a brick wall.

The medallion and the borders will be also available in concrete, for those wishing to purchase the complete set, keep in mind that due to the round shape, the assembly of 5 pieces will almost certainly have to be embedded into a wall and not hung ON the wall as it would be nearly impossible to attach hidden hangars or anchors on the wall to properly hang all 5 pieces together without first mounting on something like a sheet of plywood or anchoring them from the back as I did.

For embedding in the wall outside you must order the concrete version. Concrete is always base price plus 20% for the extra time/labor concrete involves.

This page is for the center wolf head medallion alone, in interior cast stone. Contact me for specifics on the entire assembly in concrete.

Measurements; Wolf medallion: nominal  20" diameter, with the complete set of border he becomes aprox 29" in diameter.

Shipping weight; on the interior cast-stone medallion is 40#
concrete would be around 60#

In concrete the assembly could also be made into a fountain by drilling and inserting a pipe in the mouth and embed into a garden wall for a truly unique and dramatic work of art you will not find elsewhere.

The  sculpture is not sold in stores and is available only from the sculptor directly.

Original clay sculptures by Randall (and casts of them I produce for sale) all carry my deeply impressed model numbers and dog paw-print logo, date of creation and signature on one of the sides, the casting number and casting date are inscribed by hand on the back of every cast.

General information etc applicable to all of my sculptures

NOTE:My standard cast-stone is for INTERIOR OR UNDER A COVERED PORCH/SUNROOM ONLY! Out in the garden they might last 4 or 5 years, maybe longer before showing weather damage.

  1. If you are looking for something to place in the garden or build into a wall, I offer concrete as a special order item which takes approx 3 weeks. Not all pieces are available in concrete, inquire before ordering.
  2. All of these sculptures have a heavy wire embedded on the back to hang them on the wall.
  3. I own the originals, copyrights in most cases, and the molds, I can produce any quantity and custom configurations as well.
  4. All of my sculptures are personally hand-cast in my home studio, they are signed, numbered and dated. These are finished to order at the time of purchase.

SHIPPING

I use FedEx ground service for all shipments in the lower 48 states.

I no longer ship outside the USA, too much paperwork, restrictions,  forms and special trips to the Post Office. Postal rates outside the USA typically cost more than the item.

Shipping charges, are for the wolf head roundel alone without the borders.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGE ON SHIPPING

In reviewing the costs for having cardboard boxes made for this that are large enough to ship safely- around 28" square 10" deep- I find the flat bundle of boxes is too large to ship to me UPS and would have to come by truck. As the custom made boxes would run around $8 each plus shipping, I decided on larger panels such as this I will build 1/2" thick plywood CRATES to ship which will be far safer and only cost a few dollars more.

The shipping charge is broken down to;

Build plywood crate, materials; 1/2 sheet plywood- $20
Shipping flat rate (interior cast-stone ONLY), anywhere in the lower 48 states, this includes a surcharge they bill shippers for any shipment not in a carboard container; $30
TOTAL shipping $50
