Large cornice lionOrigination: YMCA building 125 Main St., Orange NJ, dedicated January 1887, building was electrified by Thomas Edison according to YMCA records! MEASUREMENTS: 15" high, 13" wide, 11" deep Cast-stone weighs around 50-60# and exterior concrete about 100#. The cast shown was made to be slightly altered in width/depth to reduce the weight further, the cast as it came out of the mold followed by the trimmed cast further down, this was further refined before a second (permanent) mold was made and actual production began. Plaster of Paris cast of the lion which was trimmed down in size and depth and a mold made of it shortly after this photo;

![]() The original cornice lion is a huge block of terra cotta some 32" wide and weighs almost 200#, it's depth was cut down.
