NY Times story

Here’s a very nice article on me in the NY Times out today, unfortunately the planned slide show didn’t make it…

NY Times article.

New piece

Polychrome glazed 3/4 capital, circa 1915, probably came from an apartment building or hotel facade.
Unknown origin.
The shield shows traces of once having gold on it, either gold leaf that wore off or a gold glaze that didn’t survive the weathering.

Today’s progress

Beginning the additive buildup of the female figure form since this “layer” projects out from the back the most, the rest of the design is at lower levels and will just the opposite- be subtractive from the existing clay- some of this subtractive modelling can be seen in both lower corners.

No attempt is made at this early stage to create detailing of the figure or correct planes and angles of her, this is the rough laying in of the features and landmarks at this point.
Models always change as they progress towards completion, sometimes greatly so.
